The compact IXUS 1100 HS is equipped with a 28mm wide-angle 12x optical zoom lens which enables users to capture a much wider shooting range. IXUS 1100 HS is equipped with a 3.2-inch 461,000-dot 16:9 PureColor II Touch wide LCD that allows easy viewing and intuitive operation. The full touch-screen makes operation easier than ever and keeps the design clean and minimal. Users can customize the position of different function shortcuts on the touch panel, even left-handers can enjoy an easy camera operation. In addition, the Touch Shutter function of IXUS 1100 HS allows users to select the subject to focus by a touch on the screen. The camera will then track the selected subject in focus, and release the shutter to capture an image when the finger is lifted from the screen. This makes shooting more intuitive and convenient. Both moving portraits or still objects can be captured with ease.

“Touch Action” shortcuts also allow users to customize 4 commonly used functions from 10 pre-set functions, such as erasing, rotating, slideshow or tagging images as “Favourites”. Shooting stability is subject to both shift-based and angle-based camera shake. While conventional optical image stabilizer compensates angular camera shake only, macro and close-up photography suffers from shift-based movement mostly. That is why IXUS 1100 HS is incorporated with the new Hybrid IS, by adding an accelerometer to work with gyroscopic sensors, both kinds of movement can be corrected with high precision, thus enhancing stability during macro shooting subsequently.

IXUS 1100 HS supports full HD movie shooting in 1920 x 1080 resolution for more vivid image details. Stereo sound recording is also provided for high quality audio. Made specially for movie shooting, Dynamic IS reduces shakings caused by handheld shooting at wide angle, while Powered IS is made to improve motion compensation at the tele-end. Work perfectly with Scene Detection technology, the cameras can intelligently select the optimal settings for up to 21 pre-set scene modes for movie shooting. Also, it supports iFrame HD movie shooting for smooth and quick movie editing.

IXUS 1100 HS features a highly light-receptive HS SYSTEM that integrates DIGIC 4's almighty data processing power and 12.1-megapixel high sensitivity CMOS image sensor to dramatically improve the signal-to-noise ratio. It is especially useful for shooting with high ISO at low light situation, as it allows a shorter exposure time thus shaking due to long exposure setting can be largely reduced. The accuracy and tracking speed of Face Detection are also strengthened up to 3 times and 10 times faster respectively. Scene Detection automatically detects shooting distance, lighting condition, color temperature and moving subjects etc, and adjusts to the best possible camera settings to capture the scene easily. By detecting a subject's focus and exposure, white balance, ISO speed and dynamic range, users can capture perfect images in different situations across a range of lighting conditions such as bright, backlit or blue skies.

Among the other scene modes, spotlight and facial shadow portraits modes can analyze lighting condition for the optimal exposure and flash setting to make the subjects look natural and eye-catching. Tracking AF function is also supported to track the focuses of both moving portraits or subjects to ensure sharp focus and right exposure at all times.

IXUS 1100 HS offers a wide range of creative filters for your easy creation of fun photos and movies. Miniature Mode can emphasize the subject and blur the surrounding area, creating a miniature-scale effect similar to Tilt-Shift lens. It also supports movie shooting. With the adoption of Time Lapse Movie, interesting fast motion effects can be created. Fish-eye Mode mimics the distortion of a fisheye lens and expands the central area of an image to create a convex effect. It provides 3 different levels of enlargement and convexity from Low, Medium to High. Toy Camera Effect creates a special effect similar to a pinhole camera with 3 color settings of Warm, Standard and Cool available.

With Handheld Night Scene mode, IXUS 1100 HS will capture multiple images simultaneously, and combine them into one sharp and optimally-exposed photo with minimized noise. Bright and clear images can be easily captured even without using tripod, allowing greater flexibility and enjoyment for night scene photography.

IXUS 1100 HS is equipped with different Smart Shutter modes. Face Self-Timer automatically tracks each face in frame. Every time a new face enters, the timer will be activated to start adjusting focus and exposure, and release the shutter two seconds later to capture the perfect and sharp images. The Wink and Smile Self-Timers are able to detect facial expressions – blinked eye or smile as a signal for shutter release. Once a wink is detected, the camera will automatically shoot with optimal focus and exposure after two seconds; when a smile is detected, focus and exposure will be adjusted, and the shutter will be released immediately. It avoids hand shaking and guarantee good result with adequate preparation time, ensuring that every happy face is captured perfectly.

For photo prints and share without uploading to computer, IXUS 1100 HS fully supports PictBridge for direct printing and fast file uploads. It also features USB interface for easy sharing of images and videos.
